Poppy makes light, mode-aware fixes after you pause. Your shorthand stays shorthand, your tone stays yours. You can also choose to review suggestions first.

Double-tap right Command to refine a selection or the whole field. Your writing changes in place, with Undo a shortcut away.

Shortcuts and one-time tools

Hold right ⌘, use ↑ ↓ or Tab, then Return to choose. Choosing a mode leaves your draft untouched. Escape cancels; releasing Command alone doesn’t select.

Need something once? Open … for Fix, Shorten, Improve, Translate, or Ask. Your app’s mode stays the same. Inline commands such as @ask also override the mode for that request.

Tell Poppy how you like to write. Your instructions guide corrections, rewrites and translations, so you don’t have to ask each time.

Which Macs are supported?

This developer preview requires a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later.

Is an API key required?

No. The free beta includes up to 2,000 AI calls each month, including your first example. Long requests may reach your allowance sooner. No account or payment details needed. Math, conversions, dates and text formatting are unlimited and run on your Mac.

Are automatic checks enabled immediately?

Yes. New installs apply fixes after a pause once you enable Accessibility access. Under Fix behavior in Writing settings, you can choose Suggest fixes, prepare your shortcut only, or turn automatic checking off.

Does changing modes edit my text?

No. It only saves your choice for the current app. New apps start with your default mode, initially Message. Change the default in General settings or remembered modes in Apps. Switching modes doesn’t use an AI call.

Why is Accessibility permission needed?

It lets Poppy read and update supported text fields. Compatibility varies by app and editor; some fields, rich text, and custom editors may not work. Protected password fields are excluded.

Privacy, in plain words.

A little context at a time.

Automatic checks read text behind your cursor after a pause. Shortcut actions use your selection, or the current field when nothing is selected. You can change or turn off automatic checks in Writing settings.

Password fields stay off-limits.

Protected password fields are skipped. Password managers are disabled by default, too.

Choose where it helps.

Turn Poppy off for individual apps, or pause it from the menu bar. You can turn automatic checks off at any time.

Math, conversions, dates and text formatting run locally, without an AI request.

In the free beta, the text you submit and your writing preferences pass through Poppy’s service to Anthropic. Poppy stores usage counts and request status, not your drafts or responses. A random credential stays in your Mac’s Keychain; hashed installation and network identifiers help limit abuse. Automatic checks also send text and use your allowance. You can use your own key or choose on-device AI in Advanced settings.
