Which Macs are supported?
This developer preview requires a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. Poppy updates itself in the background and installs new versions while your Mac is idle, so you only download it once.
Is an API key required?
No. The free beta includes up to 2,000 AI calls each month. No account or payment details are needed. Typo fixes, math, conversions, dates and text formatting run on your Mac and are unlimited.
Are automatic fixes on right away?
Yes, for typos. Once you enable Accessibility access, Poppy checks after you pause and only replaces clear spelling slips. Unfinished thoughts, lowercase style, slang, names, code and links are left alone. You can turn automatic fixes off, or tell Poppy to never touch a particular app.
What can I ask for?
Hold right ⌘ in any text field and type it: shorter, friendlier, more formal, a translation, bullet points, or a question about what you wrote. Edits go straight into the field. Answers appear in Poppy’s field and never replace your text.
How do I switch writing modes?
Triple-tap right ⌘ to choose how Poppy writes in the current app: Message, Write, Prompt or Code. Poppy remembers the choice for that app. The … button holds one-time actions: fix, shorten, improve, translate or ask.
How do I undo a change?
Hold ⇧ and double-tap right ⌘, or use your app’s own Undo. Undoing an automatic fix within a few seconds also makes Poppy more conservative in that app.
Why is Accessibility permission needed?
It lets Poppy read and update supported text fields. Compatibility varies by app and editor; some fields, rich text, and custom editors may not work. Protected password fields are excluded.
